The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing internal tension following allegations of exclusion, lack of transparency, and unfair treatment in its nomination process ahead of upcoming political activities.
Concerns were raised by members of the party’s youth wing, the Muhaska Youth Movement, and several State House of Assembly aspirants, prompting an emergency intervention meeting convened by the party’s National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, in Kaduna.
Rufai disclosed that the meeting was called after receiving multiple complaints from aggrieved members who alleged that qualified youth aspirants were being sidelined and denied equal access to nomination opportunities within the party structure.
According to him, the session was emotional and revealing, as many young party members recounted years of dedication and personal sacrifice toward building the ADC in Kaduna State.
“I listened to young party members who sacrificed years, resources, and personal opportunities to build the ADC structure across Kaduna State,” Rufai said.
He further noted that participants expressed frustration over what they described as deliberate efforts to exclude genuine aspirants from the political process despite their loyalty and contributions to the party.
Many of the concerns, he added, have now been formally escalated to the party’s leadership at the national level for urgent review and possible resolution.
Rufai emphasized that internal democracy, fairness, and inclusion must remain central to the ADC’s identity if it hopes to maintain credibility among its grassroots supporters.
“The ADC must remain a party where fairness, inclusion, and internal democracy are not just campaign promises but lived realities,” he stated, adding that “the voices of young people must be heard, respected, and protected.”
The allegations reflect broader concerns about internal democracy across Nigerian political parties, where young aspirants often cite barriers such as high nomination fees, limited access to forms, and perceived favoritism.
As of press time, the Kaduna State leadership of the ADC had yet to respond to the allegations, while the party’s national spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, also had not issued an official statement regarding the development.
