Fresh tension has erupted in after armed men suspected to be Fulani herders reportedly attacked Ochipu, an Igala-dominated community in Bassa Local Government Area, leaving at least three people dead.
The deadly attack, which occurred on Sunday, has thrown residents into mourning and renewed fears over the worsening security crisis in parts of the state.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community and carried out a violent assault that claimed multiple lives, while several others were said to have sustained injuries during the invasion.
“Suspected Fulani herders attacked Ochipu community in Bassa LGA and killed three persons,” a resident told reporters amid growing panic in the area.
A disturbing video obtained by local sources showed the lifeless bodies of victims lying in pools of blood, while grieving family members wailed uncontrollably at the scene.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to officially confirm the full casualty figure or reveal the motive behind the attack.
The latest killings have once again highlighted the growing insecurity in Kogi State, where residents continue to battle recurring incidents of attacks, kidnappings, and armed violence.
The incident comes weeks after gunmen abducted the wife of an orphanage proprietor alongside 23 pupils from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Training Centre in Lokoja. Security operatives later rescued several of the victims after coordinated operations by the Nigerian Army and other agencies.
Residents are now calling on both the state and federal governments to urgently strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities before the violence escalates further.
