The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved a major internal reshuffle within the Nigeria Police Force, redeploying 56 senior officers from the Police Monitoring Unit (PMU) to various commands across the country.
According to an internal memo dated April 11, 2026, issued from the Office of the Force Secretary at Force Headquarters, Abuja, the directive was signed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Bode Akinbamilowo on behalf of the IGP.
The affected officers, ranging from Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), have been posted to different formations nationwide, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos, Rivers, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and Benue States.
Authorities directed that all affected personnel be immediately released to assume their new postings without delay.
The memo also issued a strict warning that any officer who attempts to lobby the Inspector-General of Police over postings would face severe disciplinary action.
Security sources say the redeployment is part of ongoing administrative reforms aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and improving personnel distribution across key police formations nationwide.
The development follows recent restructuring within the Monitoring Unit, including the dismantling of the Special Investigation Unit and reassignment of officers previously attached to it.
The Monitoring Unit, formerly headed by Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede, has also undergone leadership changes, with Deputy Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar now in charge, mandated to enforce accountability and professionalism.
Fakorede, a former commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), had earlier been reassigned amid controversies surrounding allegations of misconduct during his tenure.
The Nigeria Police Force says the ongoing reforms are part of broader efforts to reposition its operations and restore public confidence in internal policing structures.
