The ongoing security crisis in Nigeria’s Middle Belt has taken a sharp turn, as Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, Barkin Ladi Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), alleged that the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, deliberately redirected U.S. military assistance away from Plateau State, leaving Christian-majority areas exposed to attacks.
Rev. Dachomo stated that he personally appealed to President Donald Trump last year to deploy American forces to Plateau to curb killings targeting Christians. While U.S. troops did respond, their operations were concentrated in Sokoto State and other Muslim-majority areas, leaving Plateau, Kwara, Benue, and other Christian-dominated regions largely unprotected.
In a video statement on Friday, Rev. Dachomo accused the NSA of orchestrating this diversion. He said, “When I invited Trump to Nigeria to come and help us, their blueprint was that none of the American soldiers should come to Plateau State. Christians are being killed like chickens. That is their roadmap to wipe out Christians in Nigeria, to make sure that nobody stands for us.”
The cleric further revealed that his children have faced discrimination in university admissions, particularly in northern institutions, due to his outspoken stance on the systemic killings of Christians. He described the treatment as unfair and urged authorities not to punish his children for his activism.
Rev. Dachomo’s allegations highlight growing tensions over security management in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, raising questions about equitable protection for communities across the region.
