Tension gripped the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia early Tuesday morning after two drones reportedly struck the United States Embassy in Riyadh, prompting an urgent security directive for American citizens across the country.
In an official statement, the U.S. Mission confirmed that the diplomatic facility in Riyadh was hit in what appears to be a coordinated drone attack. Authorities immediately issued a “shelter-in-place” order covering major cities including Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dhahran.
According to the statement, the mission is also limiting non-essential travel to military installations within the region and has advised Americans to avoid the embassy premises until further notice.
“We recommend American citizens in the Kingdom to shelter in place immediately and avoid the Embassy until further notice due to an attack on the facility,” the statement read.
While officials confirmed the strike, details regarding the extent of damage or possible casualties were not immediately disclosed. The embassy emphasized that it is closely monitoring the evolving security situation across the region.
American nationals residing in or visiting Saudi Arabia have been strongly urged to exercise extreme caution. The embassy encouraged travelers to review the latest security alerts and reassess travel plans that may be affected by the unfolding developments.
