The Revolutionary Socialist Movement (RSM) Nigeria has strongly condemned the arrest and continued detention of Booker Ngesa Omole, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Kenya, calling on the government of Kenya to release him immediately.
In a letter dated February 26, 2026, addressed through the Kenyan High Commission in Abuja, the socialist organisation expressed “grave concern” over what it described as Omole’s violent arrest and ongoing detention.
According to the group, Omole was allegedly abducted on the evening of February 24, 2026, in Isiolo by officers of the Kenya Police Service.
The RSM claimed he was severely beaten, tortured, and brutalised during the arrest. The organisation alleged that his tooth was broken, his finger cut with a penknife, and that he was treated “as an enemy rather than a citizen with rights.”
The group further alleged that after the assault, Omole was taken to Mlolongo Police Station, which they described as widely feared by residents and historically linked to allegations of extrajudicial actions.
They claimed he was later moved to Kitengela Remand Prison with a broken arm and denied both cash bail and urgent medical treatment by the court.
RSM also alleged degrading treatment, including being forced to clean human waste inside a detention cell.
The organisation described the detention as political persecution and a serious violation of democratic freedoms, including freedom of expression, association, and political participation.
It argued that Omole, as a political leader representing workers and youth, has the constitutional right to express his views and organise without intimidation.
The group issued three major demands to Kenyan authorities:
- Immediate and unconditional release of Booker Omole
- Withdrawal of all allegedly politically motivated charges
- Protection of democratic rights for political activists and organisations
The RSM concluded by declaring solidarity with workers, youth, and progressive movements across Africa, urging Kenyan authorities to act swiftly in the interest of democracy, rule of law, and continental unity.
