There was drama in Kano State on Monday as angry constituents disrupted a local government congress of the All Progressives Congress, forcing a serving House of Representatives member, Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, to flee the venue.
The incident occurred in Tofa Local Government Area during the party’s congress, where members and supporters had gathered for the exercise.
Eyewitness video obtained by SUNTV Global Channel shows a large crowd advancing toward the lawmaker while shouting in Hausa, “Ba ma yi kuma!” meaning “We are not doing again!” The visibly angry protesters repeatedly chanted as security personnel and a few supporters hurriedly escorted Jobe away from the scene.
In the footage, another voice was heard shouting, “Ba za ku jira ba; ku ɗauki chairman ɗinku, kada ku bar shi a baya,” which translates to, “You will not wait; take your chairman, don’t leave him behind!”
Sources at the event said the protesters accused the federal lawmaker of being disconnected from grassroots supporters and intolerant of opposing views. Some members of the crowd openly voiced frustration over his long stay in office.
Jobe represents the Tofa, Dawakin-Tofa and Rimin Gado Federal Constituency and has reportedly held the seat since 2007 under different political parties.
A party insider alleged that the lawmaker’s political survival over the years has largely depended on aligning with sitting governors in the state. According to the source, he has worked with former governors including Ibrahim Shekarau, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abdullahi Ganduje, and current governor Abba Yusuf at different election cycles.
As of press time, Jobe had not issued any public statement regarding the incident, while the Kano State chapter of the APC also remained silent on the disruption.
