The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State has sounded a strong warning over what it described as a dangerous surge in banditry, killings, and violent crimes in parts of the state, calling on authorities to take immediate and decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
In a statement released Monday and signed by the party’s state chairman, Abbas Abba, the PRP said it is “deeply alarmed and saddened” by the worsening security situation in Alkaleri Local Government Area, particularly in Gwana, Duguri, and nearby communities.
According to the party, the affected areas have become increasingly volatile in recent weeks, largely due to their proximity to vast forest zones that provide safe havens for armed bandits operating across state borders.
Communities Living In Fear
The PRP noted that the growing insecurity has severely disrupted daily life, economic activities, and movement of residents, while creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.
The party condemned what it described as “heinous and senseless attacks,” including the recent killing of four villagers during an armed raid in Kafi community, as well as multiple cases of abduction, violent clashes, and cattle rustling.
“These acts pose a serious threat to peace, security, and the development of Bauchi State,” the statement stressed.
Call For Stronger Security Measures
While acknowledging efforts by security agencies, the PRP insisted that current responses are not enough to contain the escalating crisis.
The party urged both state and federal authorities to urgently deploy more well-equipped and properly trained security personnel to the troubled communities, alongside intensified surveillance, intelligence gathering, and regular patrol operations.
According to the PRP, a visible security presence would help deter criminal activities and restore public confidence.
Address Root Causes Of Crime
Beyond immediate military and police interventions, the party emphasized the need to tackle underlying factors fueling insecurity, including poverty, unemployment, and lack of education.
It warned that failure to address these issues would continue to create fertile ground for criminal recruitment and prolong the cycle of violence.
Community Role And Justice
The PRP also called for stronger collaboration between local communities and security agencies through intelligence sharing and active participation in safety efforts.
Additionally, the party demanded swift arrest and prosecution of perpetrators, stressing that justice and accountability are critical to restoring order and deterring future attacks.
Describing security as the government’s foremost responsibility, the PRP urged authorities not to allow the situation to deteriorate further, warning that continued instability threatens lives, livelihoods, and the overall stability of the state.
