Gunmen Lay Siege To Kwara Community As Residents Flee In Terror

Panic swept through Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday after suspected terrorists launched a violent attack, forcing residents to run for their lives amid hours of intense gunfire.

SUNTV Global Channel gathered from local sources that heavily armed assailants stormed the community in large numbers, firing sporadically as they moved through different parts of the town, triggering chaos and mass displacement.

Witnesses said the sound of gunshots echoed across the area for several hours, leaving many residents trapped indoors while others fled into nearby bushes to escape the violence.

A local source who spoke to SaharaReporters described the situation as terrifying.

“We don’t know how many people have been killed or taken. People are running in different directions. The fear here is overwhelming,” the source said.

As of the time of this report, there are no confirmed casualty figures, and it remains unclear whether any residents have been abducted. Reports indicate the attackers were still ransacking parts of the community during the assault.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks troubling Edu Local Government Area, where previous invasions have left scores dead, many abducted, and properties destroyed.

Security agencies have yet to release an official statement, while anxious residents continue to call for urgent intervention to restore calm and protect lives and property.
