Jailed Niger Delta militant leader Henry Okah has launched a scathing attack on former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, describing him as “inept,” “a weakling,” and unfit to hold public office.
Okah, who is serving a prison sentence in Pretoria, South Africa, made the explosive claims in a letter addressed to the Ijaw Nation, where he also weighed in on the ongoing corruption case involving former Petroleum Minister Diezani Allison-Madueke in London.
In the letter titled “Coordinated Attacks on the Unity of the Ijaw Nation,” Okah alleged that Jonathan undermined Niger Delta leaders during his presidency for political gain.
According to him, Jonathan collaborated with foreign governments and leaders, including former South African President Jacob Zuma and current President Cyril Ramaphosa, to suppress activists from the oil-rich region.
Okah further claimed these actions were part of broader political strategies aimed at consolidating power and influencing Nigeria’s leadership succession.
The militant leader also alleged that the corruption case against Diezani in the United Kingdom is politically motivated and intended to shape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
He accused the British government of selective justice, questioning why Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, were not being investigated over alleged wealth held abroad.
Okah argued that the prosecution reflects a pattern of foreign interference in Nigeria’s domestic affairs.
Okah also cited previous cases involving former President Olusegun Obasanjo, alleging that foreign institutions had historically been used to sideline Nigerian political figures such as ex-Delta State governor James Ibori.
He claimed his own imprisonment in South Africa was the result of bribery and political collusion between Nigerian and South African authorities.
In his concluding remarks, Okah urged the Ijaw people to remain united and vigilant, warning against what he described as attempts by foreign powers to manipulate Nigeria’s political and economic systems.
He stressed that his message was not about ethnic loyalty but about resisting external interference and protecting the political integrity of the Niger Delta.
