Fresh fear has gripped residents of Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed terrorists invaded the area in the early hours of Sunday, abducting four villagers and leaving security personnel injured.
Local sources told SUNTV Global Channel that the attackers stormed the community at dawn, firing sporadically to scare residents before forcefully taking their victims to an unknown destination.
The latest incident comes barely 24 hours after another violent ambush along Gamji Road in Gbugbu, where suspected bandits attacked vigilantes and security operatives stationed at a checkpoint.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers launched a coordinated assault on Saturday, leaving an army officer with a gunshot wound to the leg while a vigilante member suffered a serious head injury after being struck in the forehead. Both victims were rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment.
Residents say the attacks reflect a growing security crisis affecting both Kwara North and Kwara South senatorial districts, where kidnappings, ambushes, and armed raids have become increasingly frequent in recent months.
The situation worsened further following reports that suspected fighters linked to Boko Haram — formally known as Jama’atu Ahlissunnah Lidda’awati wal-Jihad — recently released a disturbing video showing dozens of abducted victims, including women, children, and a nursing mother, allegedly kidnapped from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.
In the footage, the captives appeared visibly distressed, dressed in worn clothing, with some children lacking proper clothing — highlighting the harsh conditions of their captivity.
One of the terrorists in the video also accused the state government of downplaying the scale of the abduction, claiming that while officials reported 20–30 victims, the actual number in their custody was as high as 176.
The escalating wave of attacks has heightened anxiety across rural communities in Kwara North and Kwara South, with residents calling for urgent and decisive security intervention to prevent further violence.
