Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected gunrunner during an intelligence-led operation in Ibi, Taraba State.
The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, was apprehended on Thursday, February 12, 2026, following credible intelligence received by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, a search conducted after the arrest led to the recovery of several items, including:
- Six PKT machine guns
- Two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
- ₦170,000 cash
- One Peugeot 504 vehicle
- One mobile phone
- Perfumes and small containers of petroleum jelly
The Army confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism. He also praised local residents for providing timely intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation.
The Brigade urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing credible information with security agencies, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace across Taraba State.
