The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a 29-year-old woman, Mrs. Edeh Osinachi, following allegations that she brutally assaulted a 17-year-old domestic worker in Awka, the state capital.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was formally handed over to the police on February 4, 2026, by officials of the Anambra State Ministry of Education as part of ongoing efforts to protect the welfare and safety of students across the state.
Police authorities disclosed that the teenager was employed as a house help and lived under the supervision of the suspect. Trouble came to light when school authorities reportedly noticed severe injuries on the girl’s body during a teaching session, raising immediate concern.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the injuries were sustained at home. Further inquiries uncovered allegations that Mrs. Osinachi assaulted the minor after accusing her of using a mobile phone without permission.
The victim alleged that, in a fit of anger, the suspect pressed a heated electric iron against parts of her body, causing serious burns and injuries.
“During interrogation by the police, the suspect reportedly confessed to the act,” the police statement said.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Police Command commended the school authorities for their vigilance and swift intervention, noting that their actions helped prevent further harm to the victim.
SP Ikenga assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also cautioned parents and guardians to take on only responsibilities they can properly manage, warning that negligence often exposes children to abuse when placed in the care of others.
The case remains under active investigation.
