Some personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have accused the leadership of the agency of failing to pay promotion arrears and other operational allowances running into billions of naira, despite claims that the funds have already been released.
The affected officers allege that promotion arrears covering the period from 2022 to 2024 remain unpaid for thousands of personnel nationwide, raising serious concerns over transparency and welfare within the paramilitary organisation.
Speaking to SUNTV Global Channel under strict conditions of anonymity, several serving officers accused the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, of allegedly withholding funds meant for promoted officers and personnel deployed for election duties.
“As I speak to you now, promotion arrears from 2022 to 2024 have not been paid,” one officer said.
“I was promoted in 2023, but I only started earning my new salary in 2025, without receiving over one million naira in arrears owed to me.”
Another officer claimed that while the NSCDC leadership has publicly stated that all promotion arrears have been settled, personnel on the ground have yet to receive any payments.
“The rumour everywhere is that the Commandant-General said he has paid all arrears, but the truth is that officers received nothing,” the source alleged.
Beyond promotion-related entitlements, officers also accused the corps’ leadership of diverting funds meant for personnel deployed during election duties across the country.
“Money meant for election duties was allegedly cornered. Many of us were deployed, but we were never paid,” another officer claimed.
The officers appealed to the media, government authorities, and oversight agencies to urgently investigate the matter, describing the situation as “inhumane” and demoralising.
“Please help us bring this injustice to public attention. Many of us cannot speak openly because we fear victimisation,” one officer said.
According to the sources, the alleged non-payment of entitlements has severely affected morale within the corps, with many officers struggling to cope with Nigeria’s rising cost of living and worsening economic conditions.
Efforts by SUNTV Global Channel to obtain an official response from the NSCDC spokesperson or the office of the Commandant-General were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The allegations come amid broader concerns over the welfare of security personnel in Nigeria, including delayed salaries, unpaid allowances, and poor working conditions—issues analysts warn could negatively impact morale, discipline, and operational effectiveness.
Stakeholders are now calling on the Federal Government, the Ministry of Interior, and relevant oversight bodies to conduct an urgent investigation and ensure that all outstanding entitlements owed to NSCDC personnel are paid without further delay.
