The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an intensive investigation into the mysterious death of a 27-year-old woman, Esther Akwaji, whose sudden demise has raised serious questions after her boyfriend reportedly fled shortly after she was confirmed dead at a hospital in Abuja.
Information gathered by SUNTV Global Channel indicates that the deceased, a resident of Nasarawa State, had travelled to the Federal Capital Territory to spend time with her family. On Tuesday, January 21, Esther reportedly left her family home, informing relatives that she was heading to a bank in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja.
Family members said that when Esther failed to return home hours later and repeated attempts to reach her proved unsuccessful, concern began to grow. Their fears were later heightened when they received a phone call from an unknown man who was using Esther’s mobile phone and claimed to be her boyfriend.
According to the account allegedly given by the man, Esther had instead visited him at his residence. He claimed that during her visit, he purchased food for both of them to eat. However, he alleged that while they were eating, Esther suddenly began vomiting and became seriously ill.
The man further claimed that he rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency medical attention. Medical personnel at the hospital reportedly confirmed that Esther was already dead on arrival.
In a disturbing turn of events, the boyfriend allegedly fled the hospital premises immediately after doctors pronounced her dead. He has since remained unreachable, prompting suspicion and a swift response from law enforcement authorities.
Sources disclosed that hospital officials alerted security operatives after the man disappeared, leading to the involvement of the police. Esther’s family was subsequently informed of her death, plunging them into shock and grief.
Confirming the incident to SUNTV Global Channel, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Command has commenced a full-scale investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.
“The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy to determine the actual cause of death,” SP Adeh stated. “Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspect who fled the hospital.”
The police spokesperson added that the Command is following all available leads and urged the public to remain calm, assuring that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring justice.
As investigations continue, questions remain over the events that led to Esther’s death, the nature of her relationship with the fleeing suspect, and what exactly transpired at the residence where she reportedly fell ill.
The tragic incident has sparked concern among residents of the FCT, with many calling for a thorough investigation and swift justice for the deceased.
SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor developments in the case and provide updates as more details emerge.
