Morocco’s King Mohammed VI Joins Trump’s New Global ‘Peace Board’

Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has accepted an invitation from United States President Donald Trump to join a newly formed US-led “Board of Peace,” positioning the North African kingdom as a founding member of the initiative.

In a statement released on Monday by Morocco’s foreign ministry and published by the state news agency MAP, the monarch welcomed President Trump’s vision and commitment to global peace and confirmed Morocco’s intention to ratify the charter establishing the board.

According to the statement, the initiative is designed to “contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East and adopt a new approach to resolving conflicts around the world.”

Although the board was initially conceived to supervise the rebuilding of Gaza, its mandate appears to go beyond the Palestinian territory. A copy of the charter seen by AFP does not restrict the board’s activities to Gaza alone, suggesting a broader global role.

Under the charter, participating countries are to be represented by their head of state or government. Membership is set for a minimum of three years, with provisions allowing longer participation for countries that contribute more than $1 billion within the first year.

The White House has reportedly extended invitations to several world leaders to join the board, which will be chaired by President Trump himself. Those invited include Russian President Vladimir Putin, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

However, early reactions from some key US allies have been cautious. France and Canada reportedly responded lukewarmly to the initiative, while others, including President Putin, have yet to publicly state whether they will accept the invitation.

President Trump announced the formation of the board as part of his renewed push for diplomatic engagement and conflict resolution, describing it as a platform for world leaders to jointly pursue peace through “new thinking and bold leadership.”
