The Nigeria Police Force has placed all its commands across the country on high alert following intelligence reports of a planned nationwide protest by a group identified as the Occupy Nigeria Movement.
According to an internal police wireless message issued by the Department of Operations (DOPS) at Force Headquarters, Abuja, the protest is scheduled to hold on Monday, January 12, 2026, and is expected to take place simultaneously in multiple locations nationwide.
The signal, dated January 11, 2026 and referenced DTO: 112326/01/2026, revealed that the planned demonstration has been tagged “Day of Presence.” Intelligence reports indicate that protesters intend to converge at all Government Houses across the country, as well as key public locations in Abuja, including Unity Fountain and Eagle Square.
“Intel available to Nigpol DOPS revealed that a group called Occupy Nigeria Movement has perfected plans to stage a nationwide protest tagged Day of Presence on Monday 12/01/2026,” the message stated.
The directive was circulated to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in Zones 1–17, Mobile Police (MOPOL) units, state commissioners of police, and other formations, instructing them to immediately activate preventive security measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
“The protest is planned to hold simultaneously across all Government Houses in the country, Unity Fountain and Eagle Square, Abuja,” the message added.
Police authorities emphasized the need for professionalism during the operation, warning officers to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement and respect human rights in line with the law.
“He therefore directs you to emplace measures to forestall breakdown of law and order,” the message read, stressing that “all operatives must conduct themselves professionally and strictly observe rules of engagement and human rights.”
As part of heightened operational readiness, the police also issued a deployment directive, stating that all officers are to remain in camouflage until a formal stand-down order is given.
The signal was marked “M/Immediate” and classified as “Security General,” underscoring the urgency and seriousness attached to the planned protest.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from organizers of the Occupy Nigeria Movement regarding the police alert.
