The Russian Federation has issued a strong condemnation of the United States’ military action against Venezuela, describing the strike as an unjustified act of armed aggression and warning that it could further destabilise the region.
In a statement released on Saturday, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the development, stressing that Washington’s justification for the attack was “untenable” and rooted in what it described as ideological hostility rather than pragmatic diplomacy.
According to the Russian government, the action reflects a dangerous departure from efforts to build international relations based on trust, predictability and mutual respect. Moscow warned that such conduct risks escalating tensions at a time when restraint and dialogue are urgently needed.
“In the current situation, it is essential above all to prevent further escalation and to focus on finding a solution through dialogue,” the ministry stated, adding that disputes between states must be resolved through established diplomatic and dialogue-based mechanisms.
Russia also declared its readiness to actively support any initiatives aimed at de-escalating the crisis and restoring political dialogue between the parties involved.
Reaffirming its long-standing position on regional stability, Moscow stressed that Latin America should remain a zone of peace, in line with the declaration adopted by regional leaders in 2014. The Foreign Ministry insisted that Venezuela must be allowed to determine its own political future without external pressure or military interference.
“Venezuela must be guaranteed the right to determine its own destiny, free from any destructive, let alone military, external interference,” the statement read.
Russia further reiterated its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirmed its support for the country’s Bolivarian leadership, which it said remains committed to defending Venezuela’s sovereignty and national interests amid mounting external pressure.
Backing calls from Caracas and several Latin American governments, Moscow confirmed its support for the urgent convening of a United Nations Security Council meeting to deliberate on the situation and chart a path toward de-escalation.
On the safety of its citizens, the Russian Foreign Ministry disclosed that its embassy in Caracas is functioning normally, maintaining close contact with Venezuelan authorities and Russian nationals residing in the country. It added that, as of the time of the statement, there were no reports of injuries involving Russian citizens.
