Several persons have been reportedly abducted in a renewed terror attack along the Omi–Odo Ara Road in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, deepening fears over the worsening security situation in the area.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, according to local sources. As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of victims and their identities have not been officially confirmed.
Residents disclosed that security agencies have been alerted, while people in surrounding communities have been advised to exercise extreme caution, limit non-essential movement, and promptly report any suspicious activities to authorities.
The latest abduction comes barely a day after tension engulfed Odo-Ere community in the same local government area, following a coordinated Sunday night attack by suspected terrorists. During that incident, at least four residents were abducted.
Those kidnapped were identified as Engr. Shina Ajere, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, Damilola Ogun, and a woman popularly known as Iya Lara. Eyewitnesses said the attackers, believed to be heavily armed, stormed the community, moving from house to house while firing sporadically, creating widespread panic.
Residents noted that the total number of abductees from the raid remains unclear, raising fears that more people may have been taken by the gunmen. A local community platform, Egbe Mekun, also reported that another apartment was targeted during the attack, bearing visible gunshot marks, although the assailants were unable to gain entry.
Community members described the experience as terrifying, with sustained gunfire echoing across the area late into the night.
In the aftermath, residents have called on security agencies and the Kogi State Government to urgently deploy more personnel to Yagba West and intensify efforts to rescue those abducted.
Yagba West and neighbouring communities have witnessed repeated attacks by armed groups in recent times, heightening concerns about the safety of rural dwellers in the state.
SUNTV Global Channel recalls that a pastor of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel) was also abducted last Saturday while heading to his farm in Okoro Gbedde, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State. The cleric was later released unharmed after spending several days in captivity and was reportedly found abandoned in Aiyetoro Gbedde.
A local community source claimed that no ransom was paid for his release.
As insecurity continues to spread across parts of Kogi State, residents are urging authorities to act swiftly to prevent further loss of freedom and lives.
