The President of the , , has issued a strong warning to political leaders in Nigeria’s Southeast, declaring that the 2027 general elections will usher in what he described as a “compulsory retirement” for many serving governors and lawmakers.
In a fiery press statement released on Saturday, Igboayaka called for a “ballot revolution” across the region, urging eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the الانتخابات.
He went as far as stating that any Igbo person without a PVC should be considered “an enemy of Ndigbo,” stressing that voter participation is critical to changing the region’s political direction.
According to him, the Southeast has suffered decades of poor leadership, accusing politicians in power since 1999 of corruption, exploitation, and failure to deliver meaningful development.
“There will be no going back. The ballot will be used to remove political oppressors and profiteers,” he declared.
Igboayaka criticized what he described as the recycling of the same political figures, which he said has kept the region in “political bondage.” He warned that governors, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and state lawmakers seeking re-election should prepare to face rejection at the polls.
However, he singled out a few exceptions, including Ikenga Ugochinyere and Obi Aguocha, while expressing dissatisfaction with the performance of leaders like Francis Nwifuru and Peter Mbah.
The youth leader also called on parents and guardians to ensure that all eligible individuals from the age of 18 register for their PVCs through the (INEC).
In one of the most controversial parts of his statement, Igboayaka warned politicians against attempting to rig the 2027 elections, issuing a stern caution that such actions would be fiercely resisted.
He revealed that the election would be code-named “Egwu Surugede,” describing it as a decisive political movement aimed at holding leaders accountable.
As political tensions begin to build ahead of 2027, his remarks signal growing frustration among youths in the Southeast and point to a possible major political shift in the region.
The coming months are expected to test the strength of this movement as voter registration, political mobilization, and party alignments begin to take shape across the Southeast.
