Fresh political realignments may be underway ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, as former President and former Anambra State Governor held a closed-door meeting on Monday.

The high-level talks, whose details remain undisclosed, are believed to be part of ongoing efforts by opposition figures to form a united coalition capable of challenging the ruling (APC).

Sources familiar with the meeting say discussions focused on the possibility of building a broad alliance across party lines and presenting a single presidential candidate to avoid splitting opposition votes.

The meeting is reportedly part of a wider political movement involving stakeholders from major opposition platforms, including the (PDP) and the (ADC).

Insiders revealed that Peter Obi attended the meeting alongside a delegation of Igbo elders and political allies aligned with the emerging coalition, signaling increasing regional consultations ahead of the elections.

The development follows a major political summit held in over the weekend, hosted by Oyo State Governor and chaired by former President .

The Ibadan gathering drew several influential figures, including former Vice President , ex-Kano State Governor , and former Minister of Transportation .

At the end of the summit, participants issued a communiqué expressing their determination to form a united front against the APC, warning against what they described as a growing trend toward one-party dominance in Nigeria.

Political analysts say the push for a consensus presidential candidate could significantly reshape the electoral landscape if successful, potentially setting the stage for one of Nigeria’s most competitive elections in recent history.

More details are expected to emerge in the coming days as consultations among opposition leaders continue.
