The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old housewife, identified as Aisha Musa, over an alleged attempt to poison her husband just 40 days after their wedding.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 12, 2026, in Gwamma village, Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect allegedly mixed a poisonous substance into her husband’s food.
The police said officers were alerted through a distress call from an anonymous woman and immediately mobilised to the area.
The victim was subsequently rescued and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police said Aisha was arrested shortly after the alleged incident and reportedly confessed during interrogation.
Investigators also recovered an empty bottle suspected to have contained the poisonous substance, along with remnants of the food allegedly served to the victim.
The recovered items have reportedly been documented and registered as exhibits as investigations continue.
The police have not disclosed the alleged motive behind the incident.
The case is expected to be investigated further, with the suspect potentially facing criminal charges depending on the outcome of the investigation and medical findings.
