The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming he endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, insisting that he has no preferred candidate ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued through his media team, the revered traditional and religious leader described the reports circulating on social media as false, misleading, and an attempt to drag his office into partisan politics.
The Sultan emphasized that, as a father to all Nigerians, he cannot publicly or privately endorse any presidential aspirant, regardless of political affiliation.
According to the statement, the office of the Sultan requires absolute neutrality and impartiality, making it inappropriate for him to take sides in any political contest.
The statement further noted that the Sultan remains committed to promoting peace, national unity, and inclusiveness, adding that his interactions with political leaders and public office holders should not be interpreted as endorsements.
It also stressed that the Sultan’s doors remain open to all Nigerians, irrespective of their political beliefs, ethnic background, or religious affiliation, in keeping with his longstanding role as a unifying national figure.
The clarification comes amid growing political activities and speculation ahead of the 2027 general election, during which prominent national figures have increasingly become the subject of endorsement claims on social media.
By rejecting the reports, the Sultan reaffirmed his commitment to remaining above partisan politics while continuing to serve as a symbol of unity, fairness, and equal treatment for all Nigerians.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum, the Sultan’s media team urged the public to disregard false reports and rely only on official statements issued from his office.
