Terrorists have once again struck Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, leaving behind a trail of death, fear, and economic ruin. In the latest attack, a Nigerian soldier and a civilian were killed, while a large number of cattle were rustled during a coordinated assault that lasted for several hours.
SUNTV Global gathered that the attack started late on Thursday night and continued unchecked into the early hours of Friday, finally ending around 5:00am. Residents described the night as one of the most terrifying experiences in recent times, as the heavily armed gunmen reportedly moved freely within the community, firing sporadically and forcing people to flee their homes in fear.
A security alert issued by Bakatsine, a security monitoring and intelligence platform, confirmed that the assailants operated for hours without resistance. The alert highlighted the growing security challenges in parts of Kano State and warned that rural communities remain dangerously exposed to armed attacks.
According to the alert and eyewitness accounts, the attackers made away with a significant number of cattle, a major source of livelihood for the largely agrarian community. The cattle rustling has further deepened the economic hardship of residents who are already struggling with poverty, insecurity, and rising costs of living.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government and relevant security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The silence has fueled anger and anxiety among residents, many of whom fear that the attackers could return at any moment.
This deadly assault is not the first time Faruruwa community has come under attack. On November 10, 2025, SaharaReporters reported a similar incident in which bandits stormed the area and abducted five women, including four nursing mothers. The gunmen reportedly invaded Yan Kwada village around 11:00pm, firing shots into the air to instill fear before breaking into homes and seizing the victims.
A local resident recounted that the attackers moved from house to house, shooting sporadically and smashing doors before escaping with the women to an unknown location. Although two of the abducted women later returned, three others are still believed to be in captivity, months after the incident.
Community leaders say the repeated attacks have left residents traumatized and displaced, with many now sleeping in fear or considering abandoning their homes entirely. They are calling on the federal and state governments to urgently deploy more security personnel, improve intelligence gathering, and take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed.
Residents warn that unless urgent steps are taken, rural communities in Kano State may continue to suffer deadly attacks, economic losses, and mass displacement, as armed groups operate with increasing boldness and impunity.
