Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued 19 kidnapped victims during a coordinated security operation in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The rescue mission was carried out by troops of the 7 Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade, working in collaboration with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups.
According to military authorities, the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed the location of suspected terrorists responsible for the recent abduction of residents in the Byazhin area of Bwari.
Security forces reportedly stormed the kidnappers’ hideout located around Gidan Dogo, where troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle.
During the exchange of fire, one terrorist was killed, while several others fled the scene with suspected gunshot wounds.
After the confrontation, security personnel combed the surrounding forest and recovered one AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm, believed to belong to the fleeing kidnappers.
Military officials confirmed that all 19 kidnapped victims were rescued alive during the operation and safely evacuated from the area. The victims are currently receiving medical attention and necessary care.
Following the successful rescue mission, the troops returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari but are expected to continue surveillance and security operations across the area to prevent further criminal activities.
The Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, commended the troops and other security agencies for their bravery, professionalism, and swift response.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Guards Brigade to protecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and ensuring that Abuja remains safe as Nigeria’s seat of power.
The Brigade also pledged to intensify joint operations with other security agencies to eliminate terrorism, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality within the FCT and surrounding communities.
