The Nigerian Army has arrested two serving soldiers over their alleged involvement in providing unauthorized security at the high-profile wedding of popular content creator Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, and fellow TikTok personality Jarvis in Lekki, Lagos State.
According to military sources, the soldiers were taken into custody on Tuesday after intelligence reports indicated they participated in an unauthorized deployment during the celebrity event held over the weekend.
The arrested personnel were identified as Private Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Private Ukpai Onyinyechi, both attached to the 81 Division Medical Services and Hospital (81DMSH) in Obalende, Lagos.
Military authorities have launched a preliminary investigation to determine the extent of their involvement and identify any other personnel who may have participated in the alleged unauthorized assignment.
The development follows the circulation of viral videos from the wedding showing uniformed military personnel escorting some guests and controlling access to parts of the venue. One widely shared clip allegedly showed a soldier acting as a bodyguard for TikTok personality Ivanna, sparking widespread debate on social media.
The videos drew criticism from many Nigerians, who questioned the presence of serving military personnel at a private social event involving celebrities and influencers.
The star-studded wedding attracted entertainers, social media influencers, and hundreds of guests, making it one of the most talked-about events of the weekend. However, the celebration quickly became controversial after footage of uniformed soldiers performing security-related duties surfaced online.
The Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that its personnel are prohibited from undertaking unauthorized private security assignments or participating in deployments without official approval.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and the Army is expected to provide further updates as the probe progresses.
