Two security operatives have reportedly been killed after gunmen ambushed a joint security patrol along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida Road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to reports, the attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday during a routine security operation. Four operatives drawn from different security formations had mounted a checkpoint along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida axis before beginning their return to their respective duty posts.
Authorities became alarmed when two of the operatives failed to return, prompting an immediate search by members of the patrol team.
The search party later discovered the bodies of the missing personnel at the scene of the attack. The assailants were reported to have fled with the victims’ service rifles, while the motorcycle used during the patrol was recovered.
Following the incident, security agencies launched extensive cordon-and-search operations across surrounding communities in a bid to track down the attackers and recover the stolen firearms.
When contacted for comment, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, said he would verify the incident before issuing an official statement.
As of the time of this report, no further official update had been released, while investigations and security operations remain ongoing.
The latest attack highlights the persistent security challenges facing parts of Plateau State and the continued risks confronting security personnel deployed to protect lives and property.
