At least 30 indigenes of Plateau State have been confirmed killed following a deadly terrorist attack on Woro community in Kaiama of Kwara State, according to officials from Riyom Local Government Area.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the February 3, 2026 assault left a trail of devastation, with more than 160 people reported dead, injured, or abducted, while over 500 residents were forced to flee their homes.
Speaking in Jos, Riyom Deputy Chairman Gwong Gwya Song described the incident as “deeply painful,” revealing that about 707 persons were initially displaced.
“So far, about 200 people have managed to return home, while others remain stranded,” he said.
“The council chairman has provided at least ₦3 million to assist victims with transportation back home.”
According to Song, the displaced victims are not staying in formal camps but are currently being sheltered by relatives and sympathisers.
He further disclosed that four injured victims are receiving medical treatment in Kwara, while at least 10 others remain in captivity.
The deputy chairman also announced plans for a memorial event.
“We are organising a special remembrance day on Thursday to honour about 30 members of our community who lost their lives,” he said.
A community member, Timothy Lazarus, called on federal and state authorities to urgently intervene by providing humanitarian assistance and strengthening security in vulnerable rural communities.
He explained that most of the victims were natives of Ganawuri in Riyom LGA who had travelled to Kwara for farming and business activities before the attackers struck—burning homes, looting shops, killing residents at close range, and abducting dozens.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Sunday Abdu, said the agency had yet to receive an official report but promised to investigate the situation.
