Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has dismissed his Principal Private Secretary (PPS), Mr. Oloyin Abdullateef, just days after the former aide publicly warned against the return of political “godfatherism” within the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The decision was announced as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle approved by the governor. The exercise also affected the Deputy Chief of Staff, Special Advisers, Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and Special Assistants.
In an official statement, the state government described the reshuffle as a routine political reorganisation aimed at creating opportunities for more members of the APC to participate in governance. However, the timing of Abdullateef’s removal has fueled political speculation across the state.
The former PPS had, on June 17, 2026, released a statement titled “2027 Kwara Governorship: The Danger of Building Another Political Dynasty in Kwara State,” in which he cautioned against any attempt to impose a governorship candidate on the party.
Abdullateef specifically expressed concerns over reports suggesting that the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu Danladi, was being positioned as Governor AbdulRazaq’s preferred successor. He argued that such a move could undermine the ideals of the “O To Ge” movement, which ended decades of political dominance in Kwara State in 2019.
According to him, the 2019 political revolution was a rejection of political godfatherism and the concentration of power in the hands of a few. He warned that imposing a successor could trigger internal divisions within the APC, encourage defections, reduce voter confidence, and weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed appreciation to all affected appointees for their service to the state and directed them to immediately hand over all government property in their possession to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The development has intensified political discussions in Kwara State, with many observers viewing the dismissal as an early sign of the political battles expected ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
