Nigerian troops have recorded a significant operational success in the fight against terrorism after recovering a large cache of weapons, explosives, and logistics equipment from suspected Lakurawa terrorists during a major offensive in Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in the Dogon Daji area of Dandi Local Government Area as part of ongoing military efforts to dismantle terrorist and criminal networks operating across Nigeria’s North-West region.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division Nigerian Army, troops launched the operation on June 14 and engaged members of the Lakurawa terrorist group in a fierce confrontation.
The military said its forces deployed overwhelming firepower during the operation, forcing the terrorists to abandon their positions and flee.
Following the encounter, troops reportedly pursued the fleeing suspects and recovered a substantial cache of weapons and other materials believed to have been left behind during the escape.
Items recovered include Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launch tubes, multiple RPG warheads, several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), motorcycles used for mobility, battery chargers, and other logistics supplies.
Military authorities described the operation as a major setback for the terrorist group and a demonstration of the armed forces’ determination to eliminate threats to security within the region.
Notably, the army confirmed that no casualty was recorded among the troops involved in the operation.
The Nigerian Army stated that the successful mission reflects the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA and the Joint Task Force North-West to sustaining pressure on terrorist and bandit groups until they are completely dismantled.
Security officials also reaffirmed their resolve to continue offensive operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the region.
The latest development comes amid intensified military campaigns against terrorism, banditry, and other forms of violent crime in Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions.
