Fresh concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation have emerged after kidnappers reportedly demanded a staggering ₦50 million ransom for the release of a final-year student of Ahman Pategi University, Patigi, and his brother.
The victims, identified as Gana Usman, a final-year student in the Department of English at Ahman Pategi University, and his brother, were reportedly abducted by armed kidnappers and are currently being held in captivity.
According to reports, the abductors have established contact with the family and are demanding ₦50 million before the victims can regain their freedom.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among students, residents, and community leaders, further highlighting the growing threat of kidnapping and insecurity across the country.
In response to the development, the National Association of Patigi Emirate Students (NAPES) has launched an urgent public appeal for assistance to help secure the release of the abducted student and his brother.
In a statement issued on June 15, 2026, and signed by the association’s Executive President, Yakubu Jamilat Talatu, NAPES called on well-meaning Nigerians, philanthropists, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to support the family during the difficult period.
The association described the ransom demand as an overwhelming burden on the victims’ family, noting that they are unable to raise the huge amount on their own.
NAPES stressed that the student community could not stand by while one of its members remains in the hands of kidnappers and appealed for donations from members of the public.
The group expressed hope that collective support and intervention would contribute to the safe return of the victims.
As efforts continue to secure their release, concerned citizens have also renewed calls on security agencies to intensify operations against criminal groups responsible for the growing wave of abductions across Nigeria.
The association concluded by praying for the safe return of Gana Usman and his brother, while urging Nigerians to show solidarity with the family in their time of need.
