A viral video showing the sisters of Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, allegedly being escorted by soldiers during a political gathering has sparked widespread criticism and renewed debate over the deployment of Nigeria’s security personnel amid escalating insecurity across the country.
The footage, which has been widely circulated on social media but remains independently unverified, reportedly shows Wakhini Kefas and Alaaki Kefas participating in a political event where supporters chanted slogans endorsing Governor Agbu Kefas and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the video, attendees were heard chanting, “Taraba sai Kefas! Nigeria sai Tinubu!” as the governor’s sisters moved through the crowd under what appeared to be military protection.
The development has generated intense public reaction, with many Nigerians questioning the use of military personnel at a political gathering while several communities continue to face deadly attacks from bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal groups.
The controversy comes at a particularly sensitive time following the reported death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, who died while in the custody of bandits after being abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State. His death has further highlighted growing concerns over the worsening security situation in the country.
Critics argue that the presence of soldiers at political events involving relatives of public office holders raises questions about national security priorities, especially as security agencies continue to battle insurgency, banditry, communal clashes, and kidnapping across multiple regions.
Several public affairs commentators and civil society advocates have called for transparency regarding the allocation of security resources, stressing that citizens deserve clarity on how military personnel are deployed during a period of heightened insecurity.
Security experts have repeatedly warned that Nigeria’s armed forces are stretched across numerous operational fronts, making the efficient deployment of personnel a matter of national importance.
As public debate continues, many Nigerians are demanding explanations from relevant authorities over the circumstances surrounding the alleged military escort and whether such deployment complied with existing regulations.
