United States President Donald Trump is reportedly considering a controversial move to make Venezuela the 51st state of America, according to comments attributed to him by Fox News reporter John Roberts.
Roberts revealed in a post on X that Trump told him he was “seriously considering” the idea of Venezuela becoming part of the United States, sparking widespread reactions across social media and political circles.
The latest development comes months after Trump repeatedly hinted at “statehood” for Venezuela during the 2026 World Baseball Classic tournament.
Following Venezuela’s victory over Italy in the semi-final, Trump posted on Truth Social: “Good things are happening to Venezuela lately… STATEHOOD, #51, ANYONE?”
A day later, after Venezuela defeated the United States in the tournament final, Trump further fueled speculation by posting a one-word message: “Statehood!!!”
The remarks have reignited debates over America’s growing involvement in Venezuela following reports earlier this year that US forces carried out military operations leading to the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
According to reports, Maduro and Flores were later transported to the United States where they were reportedly indicted on multiple charges including alleged drug trafficking, narco-terrorism, and weapons-related offences.
Trump’s comments have also revived discussions surrounding his previous statements about expanding US territory to include regions such as Greenland and Canada during his second term in office.
However, constitutional experts have noted that making Venezuela a US state would require approval from the US Congress as well as consent from Venezuela itself.
As of the time of filing this report, the White House has yet to release an official statement clarifying Trump’s latest comments.
