Tension has escalated in as youths in Apa Local Government Area have suspended political activities across the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, citing rising insecurity and persistent killings in the region.
The decision followed a protest action in Ugbokpo, where angry youths disrupted the official declaration of an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant, , forcing the event to a halt.
According to sources, the action was not specifically targeted at the aspirant but was intended as a broader warning to politicians against continuing campaigns while communities remain under threat from violent attacks.
In a statement issued by the youths, political actors across the constituency were advised to immediately suspend all campaign activities until peace and security are restored.
“Politicians should put all political activities on hold until we begin to experience relative peace in our communities,” the statement said.
The group also warned that any politician who ignores the directive would face resistance, stressing that the disruption of the APC aspirant’s declaration was symbolic and meant to send a strong message.
The protest has been linked by observers to growing frustration among residents over repeated attacks, kidnappings, and killings in parts of the state, with many accusing political leaders of neglecting security concerns while focusing on elections.
