Suspected terrorists have killed three vigilante members and abducted a village head during a deadly attack on Yantala community in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on April 15, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., when heavily armed men invaded the village, opening sporadic gunfire on residents and triggering widespread panic.
According to security sources, the attackers—believed to be members of a group locally referred to as “Mamudawa Boko Haram”—specifically targeted both villagers and local security volunteers.
Three vigilantes were confirmed killed in the assault. They were identified as Usman Riga from Sabon Gari village, Bande, also from Sabon Gari, and Bala Dan Chako of Yantala village.
During the attack, the gunmen also abducted the village head of Yantala, 85-year-old Garba Ahmadu, along with another resident, Bala Mazuga.
Residents said the attackers operated with superior firepower, overwhelming the vigilantes who attempted to resist them, forcing many villagers to flee for safety.
The assailants reportedly destroyed property during the raid, setting a motorcycle ablaze before escaping through nearby bush paths, making immediate pursuit difficult.
The attack has left the community in fear, with several residents displaced and concerns growing over the increasing insecurity in the area.
Security sources said efforts are ongoing to track down the attackers and rescue the abducted victims.
