Suspected bandits have launched coordinated attacks on multiple rural communities in Kwara State, abducting several residents, injuring others, and rustling livestock in a wave of violence that has heightened fear among locals.
The attacks reportedly occurred late Wednesday night across communities in Isin and Ifelodun Local Government Areas, with Iwo Odo-Ore, Gaa-Idera, and Gaa Dembo-Agunjin among the affected locations.
Security sources disclosed that the assailants struck almost simultaneously, suggesting a well-coordinated operation.
In Iwo Odo-Ore, at least five people were abducted, including a prominent figure, Alhaji Yusuf Yunusa, described as a school proprietor with interests in both Kwara and Lagos. He was reportedly preparing for an Islamic graduation ceremony for his child before the attack.
In Ifelodun Local Government Area, six persons were abducted in Gaa Dembo-Agunjin, while two others were taken in Gaa-Idera. Among those kidnapped were individuals linked to a wedding ceremony scheduled for Thursday, including the bride’s mother.
Residents said the attackers opened fire during the operation, leaving at least two people injured, with one victim reportedly shot in the hand.
In addition to the abductions, the bandits were said to have rustled cattle, compounding losses for affected communities.
The latest attacks have intensified concerns over rising insecurity in parts of Kwara State, particularly in the southern region, where rural communities have increasingly come under threat from armed groups.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official statement from security agencies, but residents are calling for urgent intervention to prevent further attacks.
