Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have carried out a deadly midnight attack on Kirchinga, Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, the hometown of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, killing two Forest Guards and abducting another.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the heavily armed assailants stormed the community between 1:00am and 2:00am on Tuesday, opening fire on operatives of the newly established Forest Guard outfit. Two guards were shot dead on the spot, while a third was forcefully taken away to an unknown location.
Local sources identified the slain operatives as Njidda Maradi and Yuguda Abasaryu. The abducted guard is believed to have been whisked away into nearby forest routes.
Residents said they raised alarm and made frantic distress calls to security agencies, but the attackers fled before any effective response could be mounted. Witnesses further alleged that the terrorists had camped near a burial ground behind Maradi Primary School prior to launching the attack.
“They came around 1am. We immediately called the soldiers, but before they arrived, two Forest Guards were already dead and one had been taken away,” a resident told SUNTV.
Another eyewitness claimed security operatives later blamed difficult terrain for the delayed response.
One of the victims, Njidda Maradi, is survived by two wives and eight children, throwing the community into deep mourning.
Confirming the incident, the Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, told SUNTV that an attack occurred in Kirchinga, stating that one person was killed and another injured.
However, multiple local accounts insist that two Forest Guards were killed and one abducted, once again exposing a troubling gap between official statements and the grim realities faced by communities in Nigeria’s conflict-ravaged North-East.
