Barely 24 hours after Christmas celebrations, terror struck Adanla community in Igbaja Ward 2 of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, as heavily armed men suspected to be bandits launched a violent attack, abducting seven residents and injuring several others.
Sources told SUNTV Global Channel that the attackers stormed the community on Friday evening at about 7:00pm, firing sporadically as they forcefully entered homes, throwing the usually quiet settlement into chaos, fear and mourning.
According to a resident who spoke under anonymity, the bandits arrived in large numbers and operated freely for several minutes, carting away victims while residents fled for safety.
“On Friday, December 26, 2025, around 7:30pm, our peaceful community of Adanla was invaded by bandits. There was gunfire everywhere. Homes were broken into, and our people were taken away. We are in deep sorrow, grief and agony,” the source said.
At least seven people were reportedly kidnapped during the raid, while others sustained gunshot wounds. A young girl was said to be critically injured and is currently battling for her life.
Residents described the incident as devastating, noting that families have been shattered and the entire community now lives in fear and uncertainty.
As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether security agencies had launched a rescue operation or made any arrests. Efforts by SUNTV Global Channel to obtain official confirmation from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The attack has further heightened concerns over worsening insecurity in Kwara State and the wider North-Central region, where banditry and kidnappings continue to threaten communities—even during festive periods.
Fresh Tension After Explosions in Offa
The Adanla attack comes amid heightened tension in Kwara following reports of loud explosions in parts of Offa town late Thursday night, which damaged several houses and shops.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing debris falling from the sky, raising suspicion that the explosions may have been caused by a drone-delivered bomb. In video footage obtained by SUNTV Global Channel, a large fragment believed to be part of a drone device was seen at one of the blast sites.
A local vigilante member who visited the scene confirmed that multiple buildings, including a hotel and residential houses near a prayer ground in Ijagbo area of Offa, were affected.
“I arrived after midnight. The Balogun came immediately. Several buildings were damaged, but thankfully, no lives were lost,” he said.
The incidents come shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced American airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in parts of Nigeria, though it remains unclear whether the Offa explosions were linked to U.S. operations or actions by Nigerian security forces.
Residents have called on the Kwara State Government and security agencies to urgently intervene and restore confidence, as fear continues to grip communities across the state.
