The Nigeria Police have arraigned Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Mathew before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of forging presidential appointment letters and operating a fictitious government agency under the name Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
According to an eight-count charge filed by the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Adeyemi and two other suspects, identified only as Femi and Anu, who are currently at large, are accused of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation, and other related offences.
Police said the investigation began after the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President reported that forged presidential appointment letters and official State House documents were being circulated.
Investigators alleged that Adeyemi used fake signatures, official seals, reference numbers, and the Nigerian Coat of Arms to falsely present himself as the Director-General of the non-existent PFIPC.
The police further claimed that the suspect operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja, where he allegedly conducted meetings with both Nigerian and foreign nationals while posing as the head of a federal government agency.
Authorities also alleged that Adeyemi wrote to the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting diplomatic support, including a Note Verbale to facilitate visa applications for individuals he claimed were members of his agency.
During investigations, police executed search warrants at the suspect’s office and residence, where several documents and other exhibits were recovered. Financial intelligence reportedly revealed that the suspect maintained 34 active bank accounts across various commercial banks in Nigeria. Investigators also alleged that he opened an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria under the name of the purported agency.
The police concluded that the PFIPC is not a recognised institution within the Federal Government and alleged that the suspect deliberately forged official documents to impersonate a presidential appointee and conduct official engagements with government institutions.
The authorities have recommended that all bank accounts linked to the suspect be frozen pending the conclusion of the criminal trial.
The case has attracted widespread public attention because Adeyemi recently accused the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, of demanding ₦400 million as part of a bribery arrangement to secure his appointment as head of a government agency. He also alleged that an additional ₦200 million was requested and claimed that 48 percent of the agency’s proposed take-off grant was expected to be paid as part of the alleged deal.
The Presidency has denied the allegations, maintaining that Adeyemi was never appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any government authority. It stated that investigations by relevant agencies established that the PFIPC does not exist as a government institution and that the suspect allegedly relied on forged documents to impersonate a federal official.
The matter is expected to proceed before the Federal High Court as the prosecution presents its case.
