Southern Kaduna has once again been thrown into mourning and fear as terrorists, locally referred to as bandits, carried out coordinated attacks across multiple communities, killing at least two residents and abducting 32 others, including an elderly woman and several children. The wave of violence has left communities traumatized and residents calling for urgent government intervention.
The latest attack occurred in Arak Village, Sanga Local Government Area, where Mrs. Averik Arak, an elderly woman, was kidnapped alongside her granddaughter. The abduction took place barely 48 hours after the brutal killing of her son, Habila Averik, and another resident on Saturday. Witnesses revealed that Mrs. Arak was already ill and grieving the recent death of her son, his wife, and their daughter when the bandits returned to her home.
Sources told SUNTV Global Channel that the bandits operated with ruthless precision, targeting the most vulnerable. The abducted villagers include children and elderly residents who, according to locals, were unable to flee due to the suddenness and ferocity of the attacks.
In Kajuru Local Government Area, specifically in Unguwan Sarki Maro, about 15 villagers, mostly minors, were abducted during a nighttime raid. Meanwhile, in Kadage Village, Kauru Local Government Area, the attackers kidnapped 16 residents and killed one person, escalating fears among local communities. A source from Kadage Village revealed that more than 100 villagers have been kidnapped by bandits between December 1, 2025, and January 4, 2026, yet many of these incidents have gone unreported due to a media blackout in the region.
Southern Kaduna has witnessed repeated attacks by bandits over the past years, prompting widespread panic and calls for stronger security measures. One particularly shocking attack was reported in Kachia Town, near the newly established Federal University of Applied Science, where four members of a single family were killed during a violent overnight assault. The victims were identified as Mr. Bitrus Bahago, his wife Mrs. Justina Bitrus Bahago, their son Ibrahim Bitrus Bahago, and a relative, Adam Waziri.
According to witnesses, the attackers arrived in large numbers, opening fire on residents and leaving several others injured. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, but the trauma of witnessing loved ones being killed or kidnapped continues to haunt survivors. Residents described the attack as terrifying and expressed frustration at the recurring violence despite the town’s proximity to major security institutions.
As of the time of reporting, the Kaduna State Police Command has not issued an official statement regarding the attacks. Local residents have urged both state and federal authorities to strengthen security measures in Southern Kaduna, warning that continued inaction could lead to more devastating consequences.
Analysts have described the resurgence of bandit attacks in Southern Kaduna as part of a broader insecurity trend in the North Central region of Nigeria, where communities face frequent kidnappings, killings, and violent raids. The situation has left many families displaced, traumatized, and struggling to cope with the loss of loved ones.
