Foreign ministers from eight Arab and Islamic nations, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have strongly condemned Israel over a newly enacted law permitting the death penalty for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
In a joint statement released on Thursday, the coalition—comprising Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Qatar, and the UAE—described the legislation as a “dangerous escalation” targeting Palestinian detainees.
The ministers warned that the law forms part of a broader pattern of discriminatory policies against Palestinians, alleging it reinforces what they called a system of apartheid and undermines the fundamental rights and existence of the Palestinian people.
They also raised serious concerns over reported conditions in Israeli detention facilities, citing allegations of torture, inhumane treatment, starvation, and denial of basic legal rights. According to the statement, such actions reflect a wider pattern of violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
The group urged the international community to take concrete steps beyond diplomatic statements, calling for stronger global efforts to ensure accountability and maintain regional stability.
They further warned that the new law could heighten tensions and diminish prospects for peace, as critics accuse the Knesset of advancing legislation that entrenches unequal legal systems based on ethnicity.
