The Nigerian Police Force in Bauchi State has rescued a middle-aged man who was allegedly kept in chains by his biological father for an astonishing 17 years.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the victim, identified as Muhammad Lawan, popularly known as Babangida, was freed on Sunday, February 16, 2026, after a concerned resident alerted authorities about his prolonged confinement.
According to police sources, the Bauchi State Command received credible intelligence at about 4:20 p.m. that the victim had been locked inside his father’s house in Shadawanka village, Bauchi Local Government Area, where he was reportedly restrained with leg chains for nearly two decades.
A police team led by the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division immediately stormed the location and successfully rescued the victim, who was described as severely emaciated and physically weak after years of alleged neglect and isolation.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Lawan, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody for interrogation.
Police authorities confirmed that the rescued man has been rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment and rehabilitation following the directive of the State Commissioner of Police.
The command also disclosed that a preliminary investigation has commenced, while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full probe into what officials described as a deeply inhumane act.
