The (IDF) has detained one of its soldiers for 30 days after he was found guilty of damaging a statue of in southern .
According to an official statement, the incident occurred during military operations near the Christian village of Debel, where the soldier deliberately vandalized the religious symbol. Another soldier who recorded the act has also been sanctioned.
The IDF confirmed that both soldiers have been removed from combat duties, while six others present at the scene are under review for failing to stop or report the misconduct.
Describing the act as a serious violation, the military said the behavior “completely deviated” from its core values and operational standards. It also expressed “deep regret” over the incident.
