Fresh violence has erupted in Plateau State as suspected gunmen killed two people in a late-night attack near Plateau State Polytechnic, triggering panic among residents and students.
The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Ban community, located opposite the institution. Eyewitnesses reported that sustained gunfire forced residents, including off-campus students, to flee for safety.
Sources revealed that at least three other individuals sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while two victims were confirmed dead.
A student of the polytechnic, James Nanbut, described the terrifying scene, saying the attackers fired continuously for nearly an hour without resistance.
“It was a night of buzzing guns. These guys kept firing unchallenged for almost an hour. We had to find ways to escape,” he said.
In a related development, another attack occurred earlier the same evening in Riyom Local Government Area, where a 27-year-old identified as Amos Monday was reportedly ambushed and killed along a rural road.
The back-to-back incidents have heightened fears over worsening insecurity in parts of the state, particularly in Riyom, Jos South, and Barkin Ladi areas.
Spokesperson of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed both attacks and urged residents to remain vigilant amid the rising violence.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the police were unsuccessful, as authorities have yet to respond to inquiries at the time of this report.
